The climate of Newport (Rhode Island - United States of America)
Newport is located in the southern part of the state of Rhode Island on Aquidneck Island on the Atlantic Ocean. Newport is important to the American Navy. The Naval Undersea Warfare Center can be found here. The city was founded in the 17th century and has a rich history. Many remains of its history can still be found in the city.
Newport has a warm continental climate with characteristics of a maritime climate. The climate is strongly influenced by an ever blowing sea wind. Newport has four distinct seasons. Precipitation is quite evenly spread out over the year. During the winter most precipitation falls in the form of snow. During the winter cold air and snow may be supplied by the sea wind.
