The climate of Odessa (Texas - United States of America)
Odessa is a large city located in the western part of the state of Texas in the vicinity of the border with the state of New Mexico. The city was founded at the end of the 19th century as a station on the Texas and Pacific Railway. When oil was found here the city flourished. The oil industry is still the main source of income for Odessa. Both the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center are based in the city. Odessa has a warm steppe climate with low precipitation figures all year round. Winters may be cold with longer periods with subzero temperatures (during the night). During the winter snowfall is not uncommon in Odessa. Summers are warm and slightly wetter than winters. During the warmest days of summer average temperatures are about 34 degrees Celsius (93 degrees Fahrenheit).
