The climate of West Virginia (United States of America)
The state of West Virginia is located in the northeastern part of the United States of America. Because a part of the state is located in the Appalachians the state is also known as ‘Mountain State’. The eastern and southern parts of West Virginia have a mountainous landscape. Further to the (north)west it changes into a more hilly landscape. West Virginia has a warm continental climate with four distinct seasons. Winters are fairly cool. In December, January and February subzero temperatures during the night are not uncommon. Spring is from March till May. Summer lasts for four months, during the summer fairly high maximum temperatures can be recorded. During fall, which is in October and November both temperatures and the number of rainy days decrease. Fall is the driest season in West Virginia.
