The climate of Zaranj (Afghanistan)
Zaranj or Zarang is a medium-sized city in the south western part of
Afghanistan in the Nimruz province of which it also is the capital.
Zaranj is located on the Iranian border. The city of Milak is located
on the other side of the border. Because of its location on the border
Zaranj has become an important trading city. It may even be the most
important trading post of the country. The recently built highway that
connects India with Iran also contributed to this.
Zaranj has a warm
desert climate characterized by extreme drought and high average
temperatures. During the summer temperatures above 50 degrees are not
uncommon. Winters are quite cold. Subzero temperatures are not
uncommon during the night. The rain that falls usually falls during
the winter.
