The climate of Porto Alegre (Brazil)
Porto Alegre is a large city in the south of Brazil and is the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Porto Alegra means happy port. Porto Alegre is situated on the banks of the Guaíba River which flows into the Guaíba Lagune. Porto Alegre is a young city. Over the last century the city has become ten times bigger. Modern architecture such as the Azoreans Square can be found in Porto Alegre. However, in the old city centre many buildings from colonial times can still be found. Porto Alegre is a host city for the 2014 soccer world championship.
Porto Alegre is situated in a subtropical zone and has a tropical climate. Precipitation figures are reasonably high and rainfall is quite evenly spread out over the year. During the summer temperatures are 32 degrees Celsius. In combination with high humidity figures this makes things feel muggy. Winters are mild, windy and unstable. During the winter temperatures are between 8-20 degrees Celsius. Snowfall is uncommon here. However glazed ice may occur during the winter. The autumn is as unstable as the winter. During the mornings fog may occur.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
