The climate of Hohhot (China)
Hohhot is the capital of the Mongolian autonomous region and is located in the northern part of China. Hohhot is surrounded by mountains. On one side the big blue mountains and on the other side the Hetao plateau. The surroundings mainly consist of grasslands. These unique grasslands are a Unesco world heritage site and are the largest attraction in the region. Tourists can go for a walk here, go mountaineering, horseback riding and become acquainted with the Mongolian way of life. Because of its situation on the leeward side Hohhot has a cold steppe climate. This type of climate can be seen as a transitional climate between a desert climate and a tropical rainforest climate. Winters are long, cold and dry. Summers are warm and wet. Most precipitation falls during the summer. Winters are so dry that sand storms are not uncommon.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
