The climate of Tibet (China)
Tibet is an autonomous region in the people’s republic of China. The region has been fighting for independence for years. The culture, architecture and sights are all influenced by the religion observed by most Tibetans: Tibetan Buddhism. The many temples, monasteries and festivals attract many tourists every year. Besides tourism agriculture is an important source of income for Tibet. Tibet has an extremely cold climate. Because of the large altitude in the Himalayans the air absorbs heat and cannot radiate warmth. Because of the altitude you are much closer to the sun which causes high UV-index figures. However, it is still very cold here. The light from the sun is beautiful up here. Despite the extreme temperatures in both winter and summer the region can be visited all year round. During the winter temperatures plummet far below zero; during the summer it is also cold here. Because of the extreme cold you’d best avoid traveling to Tibet in December and January. From May till October heavy rains are not uncommon.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
