The climate of Roskilde (Denmark)
Roskilde is the former capital of Denmark. After this Copenhagen became the capital. The city is located centrally on Zealand Island on the Roskilde fjord. Roskilde is mainly known for its annual festival, which is the largest in northern Europe. Roskilde Festival is among the biggest rock festivals in Europe and attracts more than 100,000 visitors every year. Another main attraction is the Viking Ship Museum in which you can admire five authentic Viking ships and several other antique Scandinavian vessels. Roskilde has a moderate maritime climate with cool summers and cold winters in which average temperatures are around freezing point. However, because of an ever blowing wind it feels colder. Because of the strong influence of the sea extremes in weather are uncommon in Roskilde. About 60 millimeters of rainfall can be recorded per month which is average by Danish standards. During the coldest months of the year precipitation may fall in the form of snow or sleet.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
