The climate of Garmisch Partenkirchen (Germany)
Garmisch Partenkirchen is located at the foot of the Zugspitze which is the highest mountain in Germany. Every New year’s day many people watch the ski jumping competition which is held here. New Year’s day without this competition is like New Year’s Eve without fireworks or any other tradition. During the winter there is a thick layer of snow in Garmisch Partenkirchen which is caused by the glacier on the mountain. This region offers many winter sports facilities. During the Après Ski you can visit one of the many bars, restaurants and cinemas. Garmisch Partenkirchen has a high mountain climate. even during the summer it is cool on the slopes. During the winter a thick blanket of snow is guaranteed. Precipitation figures are high in Garmisch Partenkirchen. The warm air supplied from the north sea is suddenly forced to rise because of the mountains. When this occurs the air cools down rapidly which causes precipitation. The figures below apply to the valley. Bear in mind that it is much colder on the hill and glacier.
