The climate of Saarland (Germany)
Saarland is a federal state in the southwestern part of Germany. Prior to its creation as the Territory of the Saar Basin by the League of Nations after World War I, the Saarland did not exist as a unified entity. The federal state has been divided into 7 regions. The highest point is Mount Dollen with an altitude of 695 meters. The Saar River slowly meanders through the region. Besides its beautiful surroundings Saarland is of historic importance. Several remains of Celtic and Roman settlements were found here. In Perl and Borg you can admire beautiful old mosaics and a reconstructed Roman villa. Saarland has a moderate maritime climate with mild winters and fairly cool summers. Because of the influence of the warm Gulf Stream there are small differences in temperatures between summer and winter. Annual precipitation figures are low. However, heavy thunderstorms are not uncommon.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
