The climate of Sauerland (Germany)
The Sauerland is a beautiful region in Germany which can be divided into 5 regions: Hochsauerland, Ramsbeck, Korbach, West Sauerland and North Sauerland. The region has a varied landscape with higher situated regions around WInterberg and the Lenne und Rothaar mountain range. This mountain range offers about 1,400 kilometers of mountain bike trails. Because many rivers and lakes are situated here, the region is also very popular among water sports enthusiasts. The largest cave system in Europe is situated here as well. Culturally the region has a lot to offer as well. Many picturesque villages with timber frame houses and castles are situated here. It is also very pleasant to spend some time on one of the many terraces. Here you can taste the Sauerland beer. On a warm summer day it will quench your thirst. The Sauerland has a moderate maritime climate characterized by small differences in temperatures between summer and winter. The Sauerland has four distinct seasons. During spring temperatures start to rise. However, nights may still be cold. Summers are pleasant with average daytime temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit) with the occasional peak. During the winter subzero temperatures can be recorded. However, it does not get extremely cold. Most precipitation falls during fall. Because the Sauerland is a hilly region temperatures in the valleys may be slightly higher.
