The climate of Alexandroupoli (Greece)
Alexandroupoli is located in the north eastern part of Greece
not far from the border with Turkey. Alexandroupoli is a port on the
Gulf of Ainos. Off the coast the island of Samothrake is situated.
This island can be reached by ferry from Alexandroupoli. The symbol of
the city is the lighthouse which was built by the Russians. In the
city itself many small shopping streets can be found. Alexandroupoli
has a warm Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers and cold,
mild and wet winters. The winter is the wettest period of the year; on
the coldest days snow is not uncommon. Summers are warm; during the
warmest part of the day temperatures may rise above 30 degrees
Celsius. A sea breeze offers some cooling.
