The climate of Stykkisholmur (Iceland)
Stykkisholmur is a small fishing village on the northwest coast of Iceland. The main sources of income for the village are fishery and tourism. Tourists mainly travel here to see the fjords. The Snæfellsjökull glacier is another large attraction. This glacier can best be seen from a boat on a clear day. A unique church can be found in Stykkisholmur which was designed by Jon Haraldson and is often used for concerts. Stykkisholmur has a cool maritime climate with cool summers and cold winters. However, because of the influence of the sea the climate here is much milder than you would expect. This is because the warmer sea water also warms up the air. However, when there is a northern current cold air is supplied from the polar region and temperatures may drop to -20 degrees Celsius in extreme cases. The average annual temperature is 3.5 degrees Celsius and Stykkisholmur gets 704 millimeters of annual precipitation.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
