The climate of Lamu (Kenya)
Lamu is a city located in the eastern part of Kenya on the Indian Ocean. The city used to be an important transit port for the slave trade, nowadays Lamu is a popular tourist destination. The old city of Lamu is a Unesco world heritage site, mainly because of the specific building style used in the 14th century buildings. The region was originally inhabited by the Swahili people. One of the attractions in the city is the Lamu fortress.
Lamu has a tropical savannah climate with one distinct rainy period. Most precipitation falls during spring. The rest of the year is quite dry, especially because Lamu is a coastal town. Temperatures are 30 degrees Celsius on average. Because Lamu is situated close to the equator we advise you to apply sunscreen with a high protection factor.
