The climate of Mombassa (Kenya)
Mombassa is a large coastal place in the eastern part of Kenya in the Pwani province. Mombassa is the second largest city in the country after the capital Nairobi. The city plays an important role in the tourism sector in Kenya. Most tourists who come to enjoy a beach holiday fly in at Mombassa airport. Many tourists travel from here to smaller destinations such as Biani Beach, Bamburi Beach and Kikambala. However, a large part of these tourists spend their holiday in Mombassa itself. Moi Avenue is a popular shopping street in Mombassa. Apart from being a major regional tourist center the city plays an important role as a port, especially because of the railway link to Uganda from here.
Mombassa has a tropical monsoon climate with high precipitation figures all year round. Most rain falls during spring. Daytime temperatures are around 30 degrees Celsius, night time temperatures are 22-23 degrees Celsius. The temperature of the water is pleasant all year round. During the warmest days of the year an ever blowing sea breeze offers some cooling.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
