The climate of Serengeti (Kenya)
The Serengeti consists of Serengeti National Park and is situated in the northern part of Tanzania and the southern part of Kenya. Serengeti means ‘endless plains’ which is a fitting name for an area of 30,000 square kilometers. Within the park the Ngorogoro crater can be found, the oldest volcano crater in the world. The Serengeti is known for the large migrations that take place here. During this period mainly wildebeest, zebras and gazelles roam these plains. These animals migrate in the hundreds of thousands at the same time creating a spectacular sight. Especially when these large herds cross a river you can take fantastic pictures. The best way to experience this phenomenon is in a hot air balloon.
The Serengeti has a tropical savannah climate with most precipitation from November till April. During the rest of the year precipitation may fall. However, not as heavy as during the rainy period. Temperatures are pleasant all year round; just below 30 degrees Celsius during the day. These high temperatures in combination with high precipitation figures may cause high humidity figures.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
