The climate of Antsiranana (Madagascar)
Antsiranana used to be known as Diégo-Suarez and is located in the most northern tip of Madagascar in the province of Antsiranana. The city is a large natural port, because of this it has an important economic function for the more southerly located cities in the province. Several smaller cruise ships make a stopover here every year. Antsiranana is quite popular among tourists because many remains of the French colonial era can be found here. The beautiful blue bays and green hills also contribute to this. Somewhat further into the interior Montagne d’Ambre national park and Ankarana national park can be found. Atsiranana has a tropical savannah climate which is the driest of the tropical climate types. Because of its northerly location Antsiranana is one of the warmest places in Madagascar. Temperatures are around 30 degrees Celsius all year round. This region has reasonably high precipitation figures. However, most rain falls during the local summer. During this period there is also a risk of tropical storms and hurricanes.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
