The climate of Sainte Marie (Madagascar)
Sainte Marie is an island off the northeast coast of Madagascar and has the status of the municipality of Sainte Marie. Within this municipality several villages and towns are situated. The largest and most important city is Ambodifotatra. The island has a population of 16,000, more than 10,000 of which live in Ambofifotatra. Sainte Marie is very popular among tourists, mainly because you can spot humpback whales from here. These whales pass the island every year. The island used to be very popular among pirates. Several graves of notorious pirates can still be found here. Sainte Marie has a tropical rainforest climate with high precipitation figures. Temperatures are pleasant all year round; cold days and nights are uncommon. High temperatures in combination with high precipitation figures cause humidity figures to be high as well. The southeasterly trade wind strongly influences the climate on the island. During the first few months of the year there is a risk of tropical storms and hurricanes.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
