The climate of Monterrey (Mexico)
Monterrey is a large city located in the north western part of Mexico and is the capital of the federal state of Nuevo León. Because of its situation in the north eastern part of the Sierra Madre and the altitude at which the city is located (3,000 feet) extreme differences in weather within 24 hours are not uncommon. Summers are hot with high humidity figures; after a heavy rainstorm in the afternoon the air feels clean and fresh again. The rainy period is from June till the second part of September. During the winter it may be very cold during the night. Monterrey is also known as ‘the Sultan of the North’. Because of the strategic situation of the city Monterrey has become one of the largest trading cities in Mexico. Several churches, cathedrals and fountains in the city are well worth visiting.
