The climate of Kosrae (Micronesia)
Kosrae is the most easterly situated federal state of the federal states of Micronesia. Besides the main island of Kosrae this state consists of five smaller islands, the best known is Lelu. The capital and the largest city in this federal state of Tofol. The Innem River flows through the main island. A tourist information center, a library and a small hospital can be found in the capital. It was formerly part of the US Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (1945). In 1986 the federal state joined Micronesia again. Most of the tourists that travel here come here to go diving. Kosrae is the smallest of the four federal states. Kosrae has a tropical rainforest climate with extremely high precipitation figures. Kosrae gets more than 5,000 millimeters of annual rain. Temperatures are around 30 degrees Celsius on average all year round. The trade wind offers some cooling. During the second part of the year there is a risk of tropical storms and hurricanes.
