The climate of Myitkyina (Myanmar)
Myitkyina is located in the northern part of Myanmar. The name literally means: ‘On the wide river’. Myitkyina is located on the banks of the Ayeyarwady River. The city flourished because of its situation on the trading route between Myanmar and China. Myitkyina has a warm China climate with very wet and warm summers. Because of high temperatures in combination with high humidity figures things may feel unpleasant. Winters are fairly cool and dry. During the winter things may even be very bleak. Because of the long and wet summers the climate is ideal for the cultivation of crops such as rice.
