The climate of Aalsmeer (the Netherlands)
Aalsmeer is a small town located in the southern part of the North
Holland province in the Aalsmeer municipality. Other places in this
municipality are: Calslagen, Kudelstaart, Oosteinde and Vrouwentroost.
During the end of the 19th century they started to grow roses and
other flowers here. Nowadays Aalsmeer is the largest flower auction in
the world. The building in which the auctions are held has a surface
area of 1 square kilometer and is the largest trading building in the
world. The auction of flowers is the largest attraction in Aalsmeer
and is open to the public. Aalsmeer has a moderate sea climate
influenced by the North Sea and the warm Gulf Stream. Winters are
cold. However, longer periods of subzero temperatures are uncommon.
Summers are pleasantly warm with temperatures of 20 degrees Celsius on
average.
