The climate of Almere (the Netherlands)
Almere is a large town located in the south western part of the
Flevoland province and has a population of almost 200,000. This makes
Almere one of the 10 largest cities in the Netherlands. Almere is also
the fastest growing town in the Netherlands. Almere is one of the
youngest cities in the Netherlands, the first houses were built in
1975. Well known districts are: Almere-Haven, Almere-Stad,
Almere-Buiten. The city is situated on three lakes (meer): the
Markermeer, the IJmeer and the Gooimeer. One of the most remarkable
buildings in Almere is the theater. The theater is a floating
building. The entire city is situated below sea level. Almere has a
moderate sea climate influenced by a warm Gulf Stream. The Ijsselmeer
also influences the climate here. This influences causes fewer
differences in temperatures than in other cities in the Netherlands.
Because there are hardly any forests in the Flevoland province the
wind can blow freely here.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
