The climate of Scheveningen (the Netherlands)
Scheveningen is one of the oldest seaside resorts on the Dutch coast. Ever since the beginning of the 19th century the well-to-do from the Hague came here to enjoy the sea and the beach. The beautiful Kurhaus hotel is still a silent witness to this period. Unfortunately large parts of Scheveningen were destroyed during WWII. The Germans used the boulevard of Scheveningen as a defense line against the allies. The entire village was barricaded and the population was ordered to leave. Nowadays Scheveningen again is the seaside resort it once was with many activities. You can visit Sea-Life, the “Sculptures by the Sea” museum and musical enthusiasts can visit the famous Circus theater. Scheveningen has a maritime climate. Because of the ever blowing sea wind Scheveningen is windier than other places in the country. This also causes clouds and rain to dissolve more rapidly. The number of rainy days is lower than in other parts of the Netherlands. During the winter minimum temperatures are higher.
