The climate of Sittard-Geleen (the Netherlands)
Sittard-Geleen is a municipality located in the central part of the province of Limburg. The municipality borders both the countries of Belgium and Germany. Besides the villages of Sittard and Geleen the municipality consists of the villages of: Born, Munstergeleen, Grevenbicht Papenhoven, Limbricht, Buchten, Obbicht, Einighausen, Guttecoven, Holtum and Windraak. The most beautiful buildings in this municipality are the St. Janskluis, Limbricht castle, Born castle and the basilica of Sittard. The municipality is very popular with cyclists and walkers because of the hilly landscape. Sittard-Geleen has a moderate maritime climate slightly influenced by the warm Gulfstream. Because of the southerly situation temperatures are slightly higher here than in the more northerly located places in the Netherlands. Winters are cold but pleasant.
