The climate of Sittard-Geleen (the Netherlands)
Sittard-Geleen is a municipality located in the central part of the
province of Limburg. The municipality borders both the countries of
Belgium and Germany. Besides the villages of Sittard and Geleen the
municipality consists of the villages of: Born, Munstergeleen,
Grevenbicht Papenhoven, Limbricht, Buchten, Obbicht, Einighausen,
Guttecoven, Holtum and Windraak. The most beautiful buildings in this
municipality are the St. Janskluis, Limbricht castle, Born castle and
the basilica of Sittard. The municipality is very popular with
cyclists and walkers because of the hilly landscape. Sittard-Geleen
has a moderate maritime climate slightly influenced by the warm
Gulfstream. Because of the southerly situation temperatures are
slightly higher here than in the more northerly located places in the
Netherlands. Winters are cold but pleasant.
