The climate of Terneuzen (the Netherlands)
Terneuzen is a small town located in the northern part of Dutch
Flanders in the province of Zeeland/Zealand on the banks of the river
Wester Scheldt. Terneuzen is located in the Terneuzen municipality; as
regards population it is the largest municipality in Zeeland. The
first records of Terneuzen date back to the 14th century under the
name of Ter Nose. After Rotterdam and Amsterdam Terneuzen is the third
largest port in the Netherlands. The town is located on the canal from
Terneuzen to Ghent. This canal connects Ghent to the Wester Scheldt.
According to several stories the captain of the Flying Dutchman was
born in Terneuzen. The recreational area ‘The Braakman’ is in the
vicinity of Terneuzen. Terneuzen has a moderate maritime climate
influenced by the Wester Scheldt. Winters are cold. However, longer
periods with subzero temperatures (during the night) are more uncommon
here than in other regions in the Netherlands. Summers are pleasantly
warm with temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
