The climate of Texel (the Netherlands)
Texel is the largest of the seven West Frisian islands. The island
consists of two parts that have joined. The landscape of Texel is
dominated by sheep. Along with tourism sheep are the main source of
income for the island. Just like on the other West Frisian islands the
scenery on Texel is beautiful. Several different types of landscape
can be found on the island. There are areas with forests, dunes and
wide beaches. Wide meadows and marshlands are also part of the
landscape. The marshlands used to be flooded. Nowadays they only flood
during high tide. Unique animal and plant species can be found here.
Texel has a maritime climate. Because the islands are not connected to
the mainland the influence of the wind is much stronger here than on
the mainland. Because the sea is still cold during spring little
precipitation can be expected during this period. During autumn when
the sea is warm precipitation figures are high. Precipitation figures
are lower on average during spring and summer. However, temperatures
are lower as well. The ever blowing sea wind can feel rather fresh
sometimes.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
