The climate of Utrecht (the Netherlands)
Utrecht is the capital of the province of Utrecht. Utrecht is an old
city that has played an important role in Dutch history ever since
Roman times. During medieval times the bishops of Utrecht were very
powerful and feared. They have helped to create the city as you see it
today. The Domtoren still towers high above the center. It is very
pleasant to go shopping along the canals. Utrecht has a cosy center.
Because of the many students that live here there is always something
to do. The many cafes have a very nice atmosphere every day of the
week. Utrecht is also important where the climate is concerned. The
Royal Dutch meteorological institute has its headquarters in the
neighboring municipality of De Bilt. This institute has been
collecting all of the weather and climate data for the Netherlands for
years. Utrecht is slightly wetter than the more westerly located
regions. This also causes temperatures to be slightly lower.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
