The climate of Lae (Papua New Guinea)
Lae is located on the north east coast of Papua New Guinea in the province of Morobe of which it also is the capital. Lae is the second largest city of the country after the capital Port Moresby and has an important regional function. Lae was the site of a gold rush during the 1930s. Lae became world famous after Amelia Earhart was last seen here during her trip around the world. Lae has a tropical rainforest climate characterized by high temperatures and high precipitation figures. Lae is one of the wettest places in Papua New Guinea with more than 3,500 millimeters of annual precipitation. Daytime temperatures are around 30 degrees Celsius on average all year round. Because of high temperatures in combination with high precipitation figures humidity figures are also high.
