The climate of Lagos (Portugal)
Lagos is a popular seaside resort. It owes its popularity to the Warm Gulfstream that passes Lagos. Because of the Gulfstream summers are pleasant and winters are mild. This effect is amplified by the Monchique mountain range north of Lagos. The constant sea wind causes temperatures to be slightly lower here than in the interior. This picturesque village is surrounded by an 800 year old city wall which is completely intact. The beautiful white beaches in combination with red rocks cause these beaches to be among the most beautiful in Europe. This part of Portugal is also known as Costa d’Oiro which means Golden Coast. The beaches and the sea here are also very popular among snorkelers. In the vicinity of Lagos several golf courses can be found.
