The climate of Krasnoyarsk (Russia)
Krasnoyarsk is located in the southern part of Russia on the banks of
the river Jenisej situated in the Asian part of the country.
Krasnoyarsk is the administrative center of the Krasnoyarsk Krai
situated on the Trans Siberian railway. In the 19th century Mitkov
Michael Fotievich who was a famous meteorologist conducted climate
recordings for over a decade here. The recordings are still used to
classify the climate in parts of Russia. Krasnoyarsk has a continental
climate with two distinct seasons. Winters are long and extremely cold
with temperatures of -20 degrees. The coldest temperature on record is
-49.8 degrees Celsius. Summers are short and pleasantly warm with
temperatures of 23 degrees Celsius on average. The warmest temperature
on record is 41.6 degrees Celsius. This means there is a difference of
90 degrees Celsius between these two records. Most of the rain falls
during summer. Krasnoyarsk gets about 450 millimeters of annual rain
