The climate of Inverness (Scotland)
Inverness is located in the north eastern part of Scotland at the mouth of the river Ness. The city was named after this location; Inbhir Nis means Mouth of the Ness. Inverness is situated at the foot of the Highlands and is seen as the unofficial capital of this region. Inverness’ most important building is Inverness castle which was built in the 11th century AD.
Inverness has a moderate sea climate but still is the coldest city with the largest differences in temperatures in Great Britain. During the winter temperatures may drop to minus 18 degrees Celsius. During the summer temperatures may rise as high as 30 degrees Celsius. These are extremes but one should bear this in mind. Temperatures the year round are about 7 degrees Celsius on average. Inverness is rather wet and has more rainy days than dry days.
