The climate of Johannesburg (South Africa)
Johannesburg is the largest city in South Africa and is located in the centre of the country. The city is located on an altitude of 1600 metres on average. Because of this the climate is a little colder than can be expected from this location. Winters are sunny and mild. Summers are warm and relatively wet. The moderate savannah climate is responsible for many days with pleasant maximum temperatures. During the summer temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius are uncommon. During the winter temperatures are around 15-16 degrees on average. During the night temperatures are quite cold in Johannesburg. Average temperature differences tend to range from 12-14 degrees Celsius within 24 hours.
