The climate of Oviedo (Spain)
Oviedo is a large city located in the northwestern part of Spain in both the Asturias province and region. Oviedo is also the capital of this autonomous region (The Principality of Asturias). The city was founded in the 8th century AD and King Fruela I of Asturias sponsored the construction of a church and the Royal Palace. In the city and its surroundings several buildings dating back to this time can be found. These buildings are Unesco preservation sites and are classified as ‘The monuments of Oviedo and the Kingdom of the Asturias’. Oviedo has a moderate maritime climate strongly influenced by both the Gulf of Biscay and the Atlantic Ocean. Because of these influences extremes in weather are uncommon. During the summer average temperatures are just below 25 degrees Celsius (77.0 degrees Fahrenheit). This is much lower than in the southern and eastern parts of Spain. Most precipitation falls during the winter, summers are slightly drier.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
