The climate of Mtwara (Tanzania)
Mtwara is a coastal place located in the eastern part of Tanzania in the Mtwara province of which it also is the capital. Mtwara is located on the Indian Ocean where the Ruvuma River flows into the sea, not far from the border with Mozambique. Despite the fact that Mtwara is located on the sea it attracts far fewer tourists than Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar. Tourists that do travel here can enjoy a beautiful authentic village.
Mtwara has a tropical savannah climate. temperatures here are slightly higher than in other parts of the country. Mtwara has a distinct dry and a distinct wet period. The rainy period is from December till May. The temperature of the sea is pleasantly warm all year round.
