The climate of Cortez (Colorado
- United States of America)
Cortez is a small city located in the southern part of the state of
Colorado in the United States. Cortez is located in Montezuma County
in the vicinity of the borders with the states of Utah and New Mexico.
The region is very popular among tourists, mainly because of the
attractions which can be found here: Hovenweep National Monument, the
Lowry Pueblo, the Yucca House National Monument and Mesa Verde
National Park. This park is a Unesco preservation site. In this park
Cliff Dwellings can be found which were constructed by the Anasazi
Indians. Cortez has a cold steppe climate slightly influenced by the
Rocky Mountains. Precipitation figures are slightly higher here than
in the eastern part of Colorado. Cortez has four distinct seasons.
During the summer temperatures may rise to tropical figures.
