The climate of Kauai (Hawaii - United States of America)
Geologically Kauai is the oldest island of the Hawaiian islands. Because of its luscious tropical scenery the island is very popular among tourists. The island is home to unique animal and plant life and many waterfalls can be found here. The island is home to thousands of wild chickens which were brought here by the Polynesians. Because these chickens only have few natural predators they successfully reproduced. Kauai has a tropical climate with very pleasant weather all year round. Temperatures are between 24-32 degrees Celsius (75-90 degrees Fahrenheit). Because of an ever blowing wind it never gets too hot here. Several mountains can be found on the island. In general, the higher you travel the colder it gets. During the winter snow may even fall on the peaks. When warm air collides with these mountains it is forced up where it cools down and causes precipitation. Because of this precipitation figures may be much higher on one side of the mountain than on the other side. The rainy side of the mountain is also known as the windward side. Because of this effect Mount Wai’ale’ale on Kauai is one of the wettest places on earth.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
