The climate of Yellowstone National Park (Idaho - United States of America)
Yellowstone National Park Yellowstone National Park is the oldest national park in the world. The largest part of the park is located in Wyoming, smaller parts are located in Montana and Idaho. The park was opened on 1 March 1872 by president Ulysses Grant. Since the 1970s the park has been a Unesco preservation site. Yellowstone is one of the main attractions of the United States, every year more than 2 million people visit the park. The biggest tourist attraction in the park is the Old Faithfull Geyser. Every 90 minutes Old Faithful erupts which can shoot 32,000 liters of boiling water up to 50 meters into the air. In total more than 1,000 thermal springs and more than 200 geysers can be found in the park. Lake Yellowstone is the largest lake in the park, in some points this lake is more than 600 meters deep. Most tourists come here to go hiking, camping, sailing and fishing. During the summer forest fires are not uncommon.
Yellowstone National Park has a cold steppe climate with low precipitation figures. Only during early spring precipitation figures may be slightly higher. Winters are very cold with longer periods with subzero temperatures. Especially nights are cold during the winter. During the winter you are not allowed to go camping in the park. During the summer it is pleasantly warm during the day. Nights may still be cool. If you go camping during the summer you will need a sleeping bag.
