The climate of Hays (Kansas
- United States of America)
Hays is a small city located centrally in Kansas. The city was founded
during the second part of the 19th century when Pacific Railway
constructed a station here. During this period the city was very
dangerous. Legendary wild west figures such as Calamity Jan and Wild
Bill Hancock lived here. Nowadays Hays is a university city. Fort Hays
State University can be found here. 11,000 students can enroll here.
The Sternberg Museum of Natural History can be found on the campus of
the university. Hays has a warm continental climate with high
precipitation figures during the summer. During the summer
temperatures may rise, temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius (104
degrees Fahrenheit) are not uncommon then. Because of this humidity
figures rise as well. Winters are cold, longer periods with subzero
temperatures are not uncommon. Hays is located in Tornado Alley.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
