The climate of Portland (Maine
- United States of America)
Portland is located in the southeastern part of the state of Maine on
the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Fore River. Portland is a large
city and the most important port in Maine. The famous author Stephen
King was born here. The main source of income for the city is its port
which is mainly used as a transit port for the interior. However,
fishing is also very important. Portland has a wet continental climate
strongly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. Summers are wet but
pleasant. Winters are cold and precipitation is quite evenly spread
out over the year. During the winter most precipitation falls in the
form of snow. A very cold northeasterly wind may blow here which has a
strong influence on the climate of Portland.
