The climate of Massachusetts (United States of America)
The state of Massachusetts is located in the northeastern part of the United States. A fair amount of American companies have their headquarters in the capital Boston. Several leading educational institutes such as Harvard can be found here as well. Although Massachusetts is a small state there are quite a few differences in climate figures. The eastern part of the state is located on the Atlantic Ocean. Because of this it is warmer here during the winter than in the western part. During the winter average maximum temperatures are just above freezing point in Boston while temperatures in Pittsfield, which is located in the west at an altitude of 317 meters temperatures are a few degrees below freezing point. Average annual precipitation figures are between 990-1,170 millimeters. During the winter precipitation may fall in the form of snow. Boston gets more than 1 meter of snow per year.

How high the chances are of hot or cold weather or hurricanes can often not be found in these tables. This is why we offer extra climate information per month. The figures below apply to Boston.
