The climate of Detroit (Michigan - United States of America)
Detroit is located in the southwestern part of Michigan in the vicinity of the Canadian border. Detroit is the largest city in the state of Michigan; its urban area is home to more than 5 million people. The city is located on the banks of the Detroit River between Lake Erie and Lake Saint Claire. Ford, General Motors and Chrysler have their headquarters in Detroit. The founder of the Motown Music Label Berry Gordy jr. was born here. At the end of the 1950s he invented this music genre. The Detroit Lions (Football), the Detroit Pistons (Basketball, the Detroit Red Wings (ice hockey) and the Detroit Tigers (Baseball) all play their home matches in Detroit. Several universities and colleges can be found in the city as well.
Detroit has a warm continental climate with cold winters and pleasantly warm summers. However, during the summers temperatures rapidly drop during the evening. During the winter longer periods with subzero temperatures are not uncommon. During the winter most precipitation falls in the form of snow.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather, extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate information for each month of the year:
