The climate of Rochester (Minnesota
- United States of America)
Rochester is a large city located in the southeastern part of
Minnesota on the banks of the Zumbro River in Olmsted County. The city
was founded during the second part of the 19th century. However, the
city was destroyed by a tornado after which it was rebuilt. The Mayo
Clinic can be found in Rochester. This is a non-for-profit hospital.
This clinic is the biggest employer of the city. Because of the
presence of this clinic millions of people visit Rochester every year.
The University of Minnesota Rochester can be found here as well.
Rochester has a moderate continental climate with long, cold and bleak
winters. During the winter longer periods with subzero temperatures
are not uncommon; temperatures may even drop as low as -25 degrees
Celsius (-13 degrees Fahrenheit). During the winter most precipitation
falls in the form of snow or glazed frost. Summers are short in
Rochester. However, summers are very pleasant here; temperatures may
rise up to 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). Most
precipitation falls during the summer.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
