The climate of Cape Girardeau (Missouri

Cape Girardeau is a small city located in the southeastern part of
Missouri in Cape Girardeau County. Cape Girardeau is located on the
banks of the Mississippi River which forms the natural border with the
state of Illinois. The border with the state of Kentucky is also
located in the vicinity. The city was founded in the 18th century and
flourished because of its location on the Mississippi River between
the cities of Saint Louis and Memphis. Nowadays the biggest employers
are the university and the hospital.
Cape Girardeau has a warm continental climate with characteristics of
a warm maritime climate. Because of this temperatures are slightly
higher during the winter than you may expect. However, during the
winter nights are cold and subzero temperatures during the night are
not uncommon. Summers are warm to hot. High temperatures in
combination with high precipitation figures cause humidity figures to
be high as well. Cape Girardeau is located in Tornado Alley. During
tornado season there is a small risk the city gets hit by a tornado.
