The climate of Joplin (Missouri
- United States of America)
Joplin is a medium-sized city located in the southwestern part of the
state of Missouri in the vicinity of the borders with the states of
Kansas and Oklahoma. The city was named after Scott Joplin who was a
famous pianist and ragtime composer. Scott Joplin composed ‘The
Entertainer’. The famous Route 66 runs through the city. Because of
this many travelers visit the city. On 22 May 2011 Joplin got hit by a
destructive tornado which took the lives of 160 people.
Joplin has a warm continental climate with characteristics of a warm
maritime climate. because of this temperatures are slightly higher
here during the winter than in the more northerly located cities in
this state. Because of its location in the south temperatures are also
slightly higher during the summer. High temperatures in combination
with high precipitation figures cause humidity figures to be high as
well. Joplin is located in Tornado Alley, so during tornado season
there is a risk of tornadoes.
