The climate of Butte (Montana
- United States of America)
Butte is a medium sized city located in the southwestern part of the
state of Montana in Silver Bow County. At the beginning of the 20th
century Butte was one of the fastest growing cities in the United
States when copper was found here. During this period more than 100
saloons could be found in the city as well as a famous red district.
Nowadays the copper mines are mainly a tourist attraction.
Butte has a cold steppe climate with long periods with subzero
temperatures during the winter. During these periods the precipitation
that does fall mainly falls in the form of snow. Summers are much
cooler than in other parts of Montana. Subzero temperatures during the
night may occur all year round.
