The climate of Missoula (Montana
- United States of America)
Missoula is a large city located in the western part of the state of
Montana in the vicinity of the border with the state of Idaho. The
city is located in Missoula County on the banks of the Clark Fork and
Bitterroot River. Where population figures are concerned Missoula is
the second largest city in Montana. The region used to be home to the
Kootenai, Pend d’Oreille, Blackfeet and several other Indian tribes.
The city was founded in the 18th century as a French settlement and
was named Missoula in the 19th century. The main campus of the
University of Montana can be found in the city. Missoula has a cold
steppe climate with low precipitation figures all year round. During
the winter average temperatures are slightly higher here than in other
parts of Montana. However, this doesn’t mean winters are mild. The
lowest temperature on record is -38 degrees Celsius (-36 degrees
Fahrenheit). The highest temperature on record is 42 degrees Celsius
(108 degrees Fahrenheit). During the summer average temperatures are
just below 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). Nights in
Missoula are cool all year round.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
