The climate of North Platte (Nebraska
- United States of America)
North Platte is a small city located in the western part of the state
of Nebraska in Lincoln County. North Platte is located at the
confluence of the North and South Platte Rivers forming the Platte
River. North Platte is a real railroad city. However, only freight
trains pass through the city. One of the largest marshalling yards in
the world is located near North Platte, Bailey Yard. From the Golden
Spike Tower you can overlook the entire yard.
North Platte has a warm steppe climate. The climate is classified as
such because of the low annual precipitation figures. Winters are very
cold, longer periods with subzero temperatures are not uncommon.
Precipitation figures are highest during early summer. During the
winter most precipitation falls in the form of snow and glazed frost.
North Platte is located in Tornado Alley.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
