The climate of Rochester (New York
- United States of America)
Rochester is located in the northern part of the state of New York on
the south banks of Lake Ontario. Rochester is the third largest city
in the state after New York City and Buffalo. The city is located on
the Barge Canal which connects the city and Lake Ontario with the
Hudson River. With the coming of this canal at the beginning of the
20th century the city became the flourishing city it is today. The
skyline is dominated by the many high rise buildings that can be found
in the city.
Rochester has a wet continental climate with four distinct seasons.
Precipitation is quite evenly spread out over the year. During the
winter Rochester gets many snowy days. On average about 2.5 meters of
annual snowfall can be recorded spread out over 66 snowy days. In
January temperatures hardly rise above freezing point.
