The climate of Durham (North Carolina
- United States of America)
Durham is the capital of Durham County and is one of the larger cities
in the United States. The city has a population figure of about
250,000. Durham was founded by the first colonists and flourished with
the coming of a railroad. After the civil war the tobacco industry
increased and was mainly responsible for the economic growth of the
city. Durham is an important center of knowledge in North Carolina.
Two universities can be found in the city: Duke University and North
Carolina Central University. Together with Raleigh and Chapel Hill
Durham forms the North Carolina Research Triangle which is a very
high-tech research and development center.
Durham has a warm maritime climate with high precipitation figures.
Precipitation is quite evenly spread out over the year. The maritime
climate is characterized by small differences in temperatures between
summer and winter. Winters in Durham are cool. However, subzero
temperatures are uncommon. Temperatures in July and August are
pleasant. Extremely high temperatures are uncommon as well.

More climate information
Climate figures are very useful but don’t present a general impression
of the climate and the eventual weather circumstances within a certain
period. The figures don’t always reflect the chance of wintry weather,
extreme heat or hurricanes. That is why we offer useful extra climate
information for each month of the year:
